PagerDuty

THE PRODUCT: A hi-tech "9-1-1 dispatch" SaaS tool, helping operations engineers and dev-ops resolve problems with their IT systems as quickly as possible.

RAPID PROTOTYPING

When I joined PagerDuty, I worked in the front-end core team to create wireframes and prototypes to revise and update their newest product, the Operations Command Console. I participated in scrum ceremonies and worked directly with product owners to support my development team from story authoring to comp and spec creation and then through to development and final QA. We also participated in weekly design reviews within user experience teams across the company.

USER RESEARCH

PagerDuty launched a new product in November 2016, the Operations Command Console. This product provides comprehensive infrastructure health and monitoring information in an overview format. During the course of my research, I set out to learn the following and was able to provide my client with valuable insight about their customers' user experience with this new product.

FRONT-END STYLE GUIDE

Having a living style guide helps developers and designers stay on the same page, improves consistency throughout the product and allows for faster updates and redesigns. PagerDuty expressed interest in building a front-end style guide. I helped my client get this project started by:

  • Conducting initial research into the process and documenting best practices

  • Performing an audit of every page and component of the PagerDuty product

  • Designing the first conceptual pages of the style guide
